Quark Publishing System 7.4 Known Issues
Following is a list of issues discovered in Quark Publishing System® 7.4.
QPS Connect Client and Administration
- (Mac® OS only): Users cannot log on in QPS 7.4 if you install QPS Server 7.x with an HSQL database on Mac OS, keep the QPS Server computer running without restarting it for any reason, and then upgrade to QPS Server 7.4.
Workaround: Shut down QPS Server, restart the QPS Server computer, restart QPS Server, and shut down QPS Server again before you upgrade to QPS Server 7.4.
- (Windows® XP only): If you run the QPS Connect Client updater while QPS Connect Client is running, error messages display in an endless loop.
Workaround: Quit QPS Connect Client before updating the software.
- You cannot log on to QPS Server with an RMI client (such as QPS Script Manager) if you install QPS Server on Tomcat™ and the installation path includes a space character in a folder name.
- If you duplicate a publication in the QPS Connect Client > Administration tab, attributes, Job Jackets® information, and customized attribute views created with Form Designer are not duplicated with the publication.
QuarkCopyDesk and QuarkXPress with QPS XT XTensions Software
- If you select a paragraph with custom formatting in a QuarkCopyDesk® article, select an article in the Search Results palette, and click Append Content in the Search Results palette, the custom formatting is lost.
- Pictures are not removed from detached picture boxes if you do the following:
- In QuarkXPress, draw a picture box, import a picture, and assign the picture box as a picture file.
- Save a revision of the project to QPS Server.
- Assign the same picture file as an article.
- Save another revision of the project to QPS Server.
- Revert to the previous revision of the project. Note that the Problem Attachment dialog box displays and the picture is detached. But the picture remains in the picture box.
- When you use QuarkCopyDesk to add an article component to an attached article that was assigned in a third-party format, the component does not display in the Project Attachments palette in QuarkXPress.
- If a QuarkCopyDesk user reverts to a previous revision of an article that contains one or more anchored boxes, the anchored boxes do not display in Full Screen or Galley view.
- If a QuarkXPress user creates an article assignment in a third-party format and a QuarkCopyDesk user checks it out and changes the format to QuarkCopyDesk when checking in the article, the article does not display page pictures.
- If you create a QuarkCopyDesk article assignment from a text box containing text and a picture box containing a picture and update the Runaround setting to Same As Clipping while a QuarkCopyDesk user has the article checked out, the runaround does not update correctly when you choose Update Geometry in QuarkXPress.
- (Windows XP only): If you create a QuarkCopyDesk article from a text box in QuarkXPress, draw another box and link it to the assigned text box, check out the article in QuarkXPress, add text until it flows into the linked box, and then cancel the article checkout, the additional text appears to remain in the linked box.
Workaround: To fix this screen refresh issue and remove the text from view, click on the linked box.
- The window size and position of an attached article displayed in QuarkCopyDesk change after a QuarkXPress user alters the article and chooses QPS > Update Geometry.
- If you launch QuarkXPress with the QPS XT XTensions software installed, but do not log on to QPS Server, you cannot define the component type of a box.
Workaround: Log on to QPS Server.
- QuarkXPress unexpectedly quits when you link a text box to a multiple-component article assignment on a separate page and then choose QPS > Update Geometry.
QPS Web Hub
- If you create and apply a style sheet to a text box in QuarkXPress, create an article assignment from the text box containing the applied style sheet, check out the article in QPS Web Hub, delete the text, and begin typing, the attributes of the style sheet are not applied to the inserted text.
- If you create and apply a style sheet to a text box in QuarkXPress, create an article assignment from the text box containing the applied style sheet, check out the article in QPS Web Hub, select all the text, and apply the Normal style sheet, the attributes of the Normal style sheet are not applied to the selected text.
Workaround: Apply the style sheet again.
- Using QPS Web Hub, if you select all of the text in an article and paste it next to text in a paragraph, the pasted text falls on a new line instead.
- Notes added to a QuarkCopyDesk article are incorrectly added to the character count reported for the article in QPS Web Hub.
- Exact copyfitting is not maintained when a QPS Web Hub user checks out, edits, and checks in an article that contains custom tab settings and a point size other than 12 points.
- (Windows XP only): If you open a read-only version of a QuarkCopyDesk template assigned from QPS Connect Client or checked in from QPS Web Hub, the following exception displays:
"com.quark....AssetNotLockedExc."
- If an error occurs with a check box or drop-down menu attribute when you try to check in an article using QPS Web Hub, the attribute is not highlighted to reveal the error.
- When you use QPS Web Hub to create a new From <subcategory> article, the required Job Jackets resources are not included.
- The bounding box of a Bézier, Freehand, or Starburst box for an attached article in a layout with facing pages or spreads does not display in QPS Web Hub.
- QPS Web Hub does not maintain text formatting for articles attached to a QuarkXPress layout with custom tab settings and custom character or paragraph formatting applied to a range of text to which you apply No Style. For example, if you apply a drop cap to the first of multiple paragraphs, apply No Style to all the paragraphs, and click Apply Changes, Save Revision, or Check In, all of the paragraphs display with a drop cap in QPS Web Hub.
- QPS Web Hub does not correctly maintain formatting when you remove the paragraph break between two paragraphs with different formatting or style sheets applied.
QuarkXPress Server
Following is a list of QuarkXPress® Server issues discovered in Quark Publishing System 7.4.
- QuarkXPress server cannot reconstruct a deconstructed QuarkCopyDesk article that contains a single component or is created as an assignment from a text box in a QuarkXPress layout.
- With Modifier XML, QuarkXPress Server cannot add an article component made up of grouped boxes.
- If you append a STORY with the TEXTNODEPH placeholder, the text is not preserved when you deconstruct and reconstruct the QuarkXPress project that contains the placeholder.
- QuarkXPress Server cannot process anchored boxes in CONTENTPH placeholders.
- Not all Quark Job Jackets resources are exported in the Job Jackets file created through the jjname parameter.
- Not all STORY elements are supported when QuarkXPress Server inserts a placeholder inserted through the Modify request.
- If you use the Modify request to create components based on different QuarkCopyDesk article master pages, only the A-New Master component is applied.
- The showpagepicture parameter does not correctly display a component's page picture.
