Known Issues

Quark Publishing System 7.31

Following is a list of issues discovered in Quark Publishing System® 7.31.

  • Windows® XP only: If you open an asset in Adobe® Acrobat® Professional 6.x, choose File > Save As, specify a location for the new file, and then try to check in the file with QPS® Connect Client in compact view, a message indicates that the file path is not available.
Workaround: Close the file, reopen the file, and then you can check it in.
  • QuarkCopyDesk® users who do not have the privilege to edit text cannot insert notes.
  • Mac OS® only: Measurement attribute fields display incorrect characters when the QPS Connect Client administrator user selects None for the measurement unit for the attribute.
  • Text colors display incorrectly when you check out a Rich Text Format (RTF) file in QuarkCopyDesk.
  • If a QuarkXPress® user modifies the height of a layout that contains an attached article, the Geometry Differs update does not display.
  • If a QuarkXPress user changes a print layout preference after assigning a QuarkCopyDesk article, the Geometry Differs update does not display.
  • If a QuarkXPress user renames a resource (such as a color or style sheet) that is contained in an article assigned from the active layout, the Geometry Differs update does not display.
  • When a QuarkXPress user tries to attach a text placeholder created with QPS Connect Client, the following message displays: "You cannot drag and drop an article placeholder."
  • If a QuarkCopyDesk user checks out a multiple-component article assigned from QuarkXPress and chooses File > Save As to create a new article outside of QPS, the user cannot delete a component or assign a different component type in the new article.
  • Tracked text markings do not display in read-only copies of QuarkCopyDesk articles.
  • You cannot replicate files on the same QPS Server.
  • When a QuarkCopyDesk user checks Include Style Sheets while importing a Microsoft® Word document, the style sheets display in the article and the Style Sheets palette, but the style sheets are removed when the user checks in the article and checks it out again.
  • If the file path for QPS Server contains a "!" character, QPS Server cannot start.
  • You cannot check in a QuarkCopyDesk article that contains a high-resolution picture file when View > Full Res Previews is checked.
  • The "Unable to Create Placeholder" message displays when a Microsoft Excel user updates a spreadsheet attached to a QuarkXPress layout. If a QuarkXPress user creates a table, clicks Link to External Data in the Table Properties dialog box, clicks Browse in the Table Link dialog box, chooses a Microsoft Excel table, and then assigns the table using the Project Attachments palette, updating the spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel changes the Status to Modified in the Usage dialog box (Utilities menu). If the QuarkXPress user clicks Update in the Usage dialog box, "Unable to Create Placeholder" displays.
  • If a QuarkXPress user creates a QuarkCopyDesk assignment that contains an anchored Bézier or Freehand box, the content of the anchored box does not display in QPS Web Editor.
  • When a QPS Web Editor checks out an article and deletes a paragraph break to combine two paragraphs, the attributes of one paragraph are applied to the combined text. If you are using Internet Explorer®, the attributes of the first paragraph are applied to the combined text. If you are using Mozilla Firefox®, the attributes of the second paragraph are applied to the combined text.
  • QPS Web Editor users cannot apply character style sheets to multiple paragraphs.
  • You cannot apply No Style in QPS Web Editor, so you cannot replace applied paragraph style sheets and character style sheets.
  • If a QuarkXPress user creates an article assignment from an empty text box that contains a style sheet applied to the text insertion point, the style sheet is not applied when a QPS Web Editor user checks out the assignment and begins typing.
  • When QPS Web Editor users log on with Internet Explorer, select text, and attempt to paste over the text selection, the selected text is not replaced. The selected text remains to the right of the pasted text.
  • If you paste multiple paragraphs from a Microsoft Word document or text file into an article displayed in QPS Web Editor, the paragraph returns are converted to soft returns.
  • QuarkXPress® unexpectedly quits when a user creates a QuarkCopyDesk® assignment based on two linked text boxes, applies a drop shadow to one of the boxes, clicks Update Geometry, modifies either of the text boxes, and then clicks Update Geometry again.
  • Windows only: If a QuarkXPress user selects a file in the Project Attachments palette and presses Escape, the file is detached.
  • Mac OS® 10.4.10 only: If a user's regional setting for date format is dd/mm/yyyy, QPS overrides this format and uses mm/dd/yyyy for Date and Date Time attributes. For example, if a user enters 11/5/2007 in a Date field to indicate May 11, 2007, the system changes the order and the date becomes November 5, 2007. Also, users must use "/" instead of "–" to separate days, months, and years.
